Career Information for Employers

Dear Employer

Thank you for your interest in supporting our Careers Programme here at Castlewood School.

Castlewood is a special school that caters for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs. We actively encourage all employers, not only those with disability confident status to support us in achieving Gatsby Benchmarks 5 and 6. This could be achieved through activities such as:

  • giving talks,
  • inviting pupils to tour your premises,
  • offering job shadowing opportunities or taster sessions,
  • delivering skills workshops,
  • co-teaching in lessons.

If you are an employer who could offer any of these, or indeed any other meaningful employer/employee encounters, please contact Chris White or Andrea Riley:

Castlewood School uses the Career Development Framework from the Career Development Institute, (2021) to structure the delivery of the Gatsby Benchmarks. Our Careers Programme is implemented in conjunction with our curriculum where pupils are given opportunities to learn, practice, and apply employability skills. For example, in Computing lessons pupils learn about distinct types of software, create content, use spreadsheets, and design websites. Teachers then reinforce this learning by linking it to the world of work. This helps pupils to appreciate how engaging with the curriculum can help them to gain employment.
